Who is Tamar?
To most of her friends, Tamar is pretty goofy – so don’t just look at her like another sexy, bodacious brunette who plays mid twenties to early thirties (Hollywood reference).
Tamar was conceived and was born in Israel. Her parents are really cool. They immigrated to Israel from Latvia in the 70’s. The whole mishpucha (that’s Yiddish for family) immigrated again to the San Francisco in 1980. Tamar grew up with American culture; though would way prefer to eat her mother’s matzoh ball soup than say, McDonalds. (No offence Mr. McDonald)
Since her first role at the budding at age 12, playing "Snoopy" in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Tamar's career has taken many twists and turns. After graduating NYU, Tamar co-founded a multi-media performance company called Flip Side with friend and partner Karen Sackman, and co-wrote, co-produced and starred as The BFG (on stilts!) in Frack to Bunt, an adult-ation of Roald Dahl's “The BFG”, (that stands for The Big Friendly Giant). Frack to Bunt played to packed audiences in New York and San Francisco. Flip Side theatre morphed into proto-type, now run by Peter S. Petralia.
Tamar has played a multitude of roles, including Idalya Politika, the alluring antagonist in the award winning feature film, Black Prince, based on the famous Russian writer Aleksandr (Sergeyevich) Pushkin. It was shot in Russia, and directed by the Anatoli Ivanov.
When she lived in New York, Tamar's acting specialties were her solo comedy sketches. She performed at comedy venues all over New York City where she also wrote her one-woman show, How To Marry a Rich Jewish Man, which featured many of her characters. Tamar is a winner of the Stand-Up NY Funniest Actor Contest, and was a quarter finalist in the National Fade In Screentest Competition.
As a trained mezzo-soprano, Tamar has held several recitals in New York and San Francisco. Her repertoire is rich with Russian Romances, Italian Art Songs, and German Lieder by Schubert and Strauss, as well as contemporary Jazz, French and Brazilian songs. She studied with Emily Olin, a renowned vocal coach based in New York City and Yale University.
Currently, Tamar lives in Los Angeles, and pursues her acting and writing career with much gusto. Her short film Good Luck In Her Eye that she wrote, produced and stars in, has screened at The LA Shorts Fest, The Cannes Short Film Corner, and The Liberty Film Festival.
